From “World War Z” and “Warm Bodies” to classics such as “Night of
the Living Dead” and “White Zombies,” the zombie horror film has been
popular since the 19th century.
“White Zombies” (1932) is usually considered the first legitimate
zombie film and is known for introducing the word “zombie” into the
genre’s vocabulary.
However, the modern depiction of zombies is mostly due to the 1968 film “Night of the Living Dead” by George A. Romero.
Generally, zombies in older movies are depicted as slow, lumbering
and unintelligent. Throughout the years, though, zombies have evolved
into agile, intelligent and strong creatures, mostly shown as living
humans infected with a mind-altering pathogen.
